Locals shocked to see one-eyed goat

13th February, 2018

By ERIC BAGANG

BEAUFORT: The Kampung Jabang folks here were shocked to discover a newly born kid with only an eye.

Its owner, Awang Rosli Mat Taib, 47, said that this is a first for him to witness such a phenomenon since he started rearing goats eight years ago.

“I know the nanny goat was giving birth last night as I heard it making noise. I went to check on it, it had given birth at 8pm last night (Saturday night) so after making sure the goat’s offspring was breathing; I left it in the pen.

“My brother-in-law went to check on in again this morning (Sunday) and was shocked to discover that the kid had only one eye,” he said when met at his pen near his home here on Sunday.

According to him, the kid has difficulty in suckling as its mouth is deformed, so it had to be fed through a syringe.

Considering the rarity of the occurrence, he named the kid ‘Tuah Jabang’ and hoped it will survive to adulthood. “I think it has eyesight problems too because it cannot walk forward, only backward. I’m going to take it to the Veterinary Department for a check-up and for advice on how to take care for it,” he said.
