New route for 7K Run

12th June, 2018

By PAUL MU

KOTA KINABALU: A new route is introduced in this year’s 18th Sutera Harbour 7K Charity Run on July 28, flagging off at 17:17 hours.

“We target 10,000 runners to sign up for this year’s run and so far over 2,000 runners have confirmed participation,” said Sutera Harbour Marina, Golf and Country Club (SHMGCC) general manager Rick Blackie.

“The new route will see the runners jog along the Sutera Harbour Boulevard towards Tanjung Aru traffic light and U-turn heading to the coastal highway,” he said during a press conference at Sutera Harbour Resort here yesterday.

“The runners will then enter the Imago link bridge, passing by Gleneagles Kota Kinabalu, KK Times Square before returning to Sutera Harbour Resort by making a U-turn at the end of the junction of Imago shopping mall,” he said. Continuing the 7K tradition, he said no prizes will be given to the winners but the participants will stand a chance to win lucky draw prizes during the 7K Post Run Concert at the covered tennis court.

Registration can be made at the 7K counter at the lobby of SHMGCC or online via www.suteraharbour.com. The registration fee is at RM42.45 per adult and RM33 per student/child. There is also a group offer for 15 persons and above at RM37.75 per person. All registration is inclusive of the 7K Dri-Fit T-shirt.

All net proceeds from the event will be distributed equally to the 7K beneficiaries – Sabah Thalassaemia Society (STC), Special Olympics Sabah (SOS) and Pemadam Kota Kinabalu.

The 7K school collection cards will also be distributed where the selected schools can retain up to 90 per cent of the total gross amount collected to carry out their school activities and projects.

Sports Toto Malaysia Sdn Bhd donated RM10,000 yesterday to kick off the 7K fund raising campaign. Its East Malaysia assistant manager Renee Wong presented the mock cheque to Rick.

Other sponsors are Ultron as the official apparel; 100Plus and Moma Water as official drinks; Astro Radio Sabah as official radio station; Jesselton Medical Centre and Sounds Tech Production.

Also present were SOS fundraising and sponsorship director Ngo York Kong, 7K Charity Run founder Foo Kia Inn, Kota Kinabalu City Hall director general Datuk Joannes Solidau, STS president Francis Mujim and Youth and Sports Ministry representative assistant sports secretary Razali Zinin.
