Over 1,000 people celebrate KKBA 60th anniversary

KOTA KINABALU: The Kota Kinabalu Basketball Association (KKBA) 60th anniversary celebrations that was held at the Port View Palace Hall, Wisma Hakka along Likas Bay near here over the weekend was attended by more than 1,000 guests prominent leaders, generous sponsors as well as all the local basketball community that included KKBA current and past committee members and players were present to celebrate the milestone.

Federation of Chinese Associations of Sabah president Tan Sri TC Goh was the special guest of honour of the night. Other VIPs present were Minister of Agriculture and Food Industries Junz Wong, Youth and Sports Minister Frankie Poon Ming Fung, Malaysia Basketball Association president Datuk Lua Choon Hann and Sabah Basketball Association president Phan Chee Yong.

KKBA president Fung Chun Fatt was also there.

Goh, in his speech, expressed confidence that KKBA would continue to flourish in many areas of the sport for many more years to come.

Several programmes were lined up during the celebration, including a down memory lane video presentation and entertainment programmes.

The main highlight of the auspicious dinner was special awards presentations from KKBA to appreciate former officials and players for their contribution throughout 60 years of the association’s history.

Among the awards that were given away were Honorable Sponsorship, Long-Service, Outstanding Achievement and Outstanding Performance as well as Special Awards to the title-winning KKBA men’s team in the SABA Cup 1968 as well as the women’s team that won the SABA Under-18 title in 1972.

For the record, KKBA was first formed in 1958 under the name Jesselton Basketball Association by a group of enthusiasts and in 1963, the club was officially registered under the Registrar of Societies (RoS) and went by the name that it is known to this day, KKBA.
