28th June, 2018

By DK RYNI QAREENA

KOTA KINABALU: The two-week school holiday is finally up but that did not stop children from taking part in Centre Point Sabah’s Kids Funtivity Weeks.

The Little Storyteller Competition, jointly organised with Chenson Enterprise, saw 31 young and eager contestants aged 12 years and below showcasing their language proficiency.

Held at Palm Square last Sunday, participants presented their storytelling skills in Chinese or English which helped boost their confidence and self-esteem as they spoke in public.

Witnessing neck to neck competition, audience gave out cheerful applauses as participants delivered their stories with Chinese language contestants going first followed by those in the English category.

Despite the astonishing performances, winners were judged fairly.

For Chinese storytelling competition, the champion is Janelle Wong E Sanne (A Scary Night) followed by Yvette Chong Yu Yan (The Practice of Consideration for Others) and Soon E Jean (Wolf is Coming) as the first and second runner-ups.

On the other hand, Castalia Ku Xia Ting (The Little Red Riding Hood) was crowned champion for English storytelling while Stephanie Jane (The Floating Stone) and Amelia Chi Shing Yuet (The Lion and the Mouse) came in second and third.

The overall champion for both languages is Soon E Jean who delivered incredible performances for ‘Wolf is Coming’ in Chinese and ‘The Lion and the Mouse’ in English.

Presenting the prizes were Pan-Pacific Construction Holding Sdn Bhd Operation and Planning Manager Lynda Wong, and William Chin from Chenson Enterprise.

Centre Point Sabah Kids Funtivity Weeks will come to its finale this June 30 with two exciting events – Fairy Tale Fashionistas and Glory Cup Kids Carnival – and lots of side activities to be anticipated.
