HFMD: 10 days' shut-down for Ranau primary school

10th August, 2018

By ADUKA JASNIN SUMAN

RANAU: A primary school in Ranau has been forced to close for 10 days beginning yesterday when Hand, Foot and Mouth Disease (HFMD) was detected in five of its students.

District Chief Education Officer, Siti Hamni Hashim said when contacted by the media confirmed that this was the first school in Ranau to be closed due to HFMD.

“The disease was first detected in the school on July 26 where a Primary 1 student was confirmed as having the disease. This was followed by a second case on Aug 3 where two more students in Primary 1 and 4 were infected.

“When we were informed that two more Primary 1 students were confirmed infected with HFMD on Aug 7, we had no choice but to close down the school today (Thursday),” she said, adding that the decision was made immediately to prevent the outbreak from spreading to the children in the district.

She also advised all quarters to take maximum prevention measures.
