Junior Rhinos maintain pole position

KOTA KINABALU: Junior Rhinos struggled to 1-0 win over Armed Forces in a President’s Cup Group A tie at the Likas Stadium yesterday.

Arius Dius Jais scored the solitary goal of the afternoon match from the spot in the first half stoppage time. The hosts were awarded the spot kick after an Armed Forces player was caught for handball inside the box.

Arius wasted no chance in converting the spot kick as his attempt went into the back of the net that defeated the hapless Armed Forces goalkeeper Razif Mohd Hidzir.

That was the Junior Rhinos fourth win in five matches. The three points gained also saw them maintain their pole position with 12 points in their bag.

“We are happy with the win and the three points, but we are not too impressed with how we took the game. “We wanted to win by more goals, but only managed to score one. I think we can consider ourselves lucky to walk home with the three points, and no thanks to the missed opportunities.

“I think if we were more clinical in our finishing, we could have won 2-0 at the very least. But unfortunately, it was not the case,” said Yassin.

Junior Rhinos next game is against Selangor United F.C. on Thursday.
