Robson – February Player of the Month

KOTA KINABALU: Sabah’s first-choice custodian, Robson Rendy Rining was awarded the Premier League’s Player of the Month Award for February by the Malaysia Professional Football Players Association (PFAM), recently.

The 25-year-old goalkeeper from Beaufort outperformed four other players namely Gilberto Fortunato (Felda United), Anselmo Arruda Da Silva (Felcra FC), Lucas Pugh (UiTM FC) and Zarco Korac (Kuantan FA).

As the only local lad in the selection, Robson won the award after receiving the most votes from fans and peers which is decided on the PFAM official website.

Sabah are currently third in Malaysia’s second division after four matches courtesy of Robson’s stellar performances between the posts in the opening few weeks of the season.

He was given the responsibility to carry out as Sabah’s Number One by head coach, Jelius Ating starting this season after playing as second-choice to the experienced Rozaimie Rohim last year.

Robson delivered Jelius’ faith in style after conceding only four goals in Sabah’s first five games of the season where two goals were from league matches and another two from the FA Cup.

His highlight so far was helping Sabah to draw 1-1 away against Felcra FC when Rendy saved an injury-time penalty kick to ensure Sabah brought back one point.
