Warisan puts up 6 names for federal cabinet

KOTA KINABALU: Six members of Parliament from Parti Warisan Sabah (Warisan) were among those recommended for full federal ministerial posts.

Chief Minister, Datuk Seri Shafie Apdal said that he has also spoken to DAP’s leadership to submit recommendations. He is also optimistic that Warisan deputy president Darrel Leiking who is also Penampang MP will be appointed a full minister when the cabinet is announced.

Speaking at a press conference at his residence inTaman Golf View here yesterday, Shafie said that he is confident with the ability of the MPs he recommended based on their experience and education backgrounds.

When asked about the absence of a state ministry to look into women’s affairs, he said that a woman, Christina Liew has been given a big task as deputy chief minister for the first time since the era of Parti Bersatu Sabah.

Christina will be looking at the women’s affairs, along with other ministries, he said

On his immediate plan for Sabah, Shafie said he would look into amending the Sabah Land Ordinance to remove the provision for communal titles.

According to him, creating job opportunities for the people is the government’s main priority, and among the projects being considered is the opening a Nissan automotive assembly plant in KKIP.

To eliminate inter-racial conflicts, he said that the new ministry to oversee the indigenous affairs should be able to resolve problems related to the native’s customary laws. –Bernama
