Doubled patrols in Tg Aru "black areas"

KOTA KINABALU: Scheduled patrols in the “black areas” of Tanjung Aru will double after the community voiced out their concerns to the Kota Kinabalu police department chiefs during a public outreach programme here yesterday.

Kota Kinabalu police Chief, ACP Habibi Majinji said drug related crimes were the most prevalent, based on the number of received complaints.

“The information we get here is live and unfiltered, indeed a great amount of intelligence for our investigative purposes.

A senior citizen present at the meeting expressed his concern on the matter, saying that children easily gave in to peer pressure and said cigarettes which “act as a gateway drug to harder substances” indicates how easily a child will want to try drugs like crystal methamphetamine, when urged to by peers.

“Larger operations involving other agencies with the likes of the Immigration Department and National Anti-Drug Agency will be carried out soon as a long term solution to this problem which will ultimately solve other problems from this aspect,” the Chief said.
